MUSIC THERAPY AUGMENTED

I’m Lizzie Digiovanni: a music therapist who creates learning experiences about why music moves us. I aim to inspire those who love music to be curious about why we love music - and how it’s used to better our lives.
When I had a major medical event that put me in the hospital as a teenager, my whole world stopped. In my recovery, I needed extra time to walk to classes, sat out of a marching band season, and wrestled with why illness impacted my access to do what I loved: make music.
After making a full recovery, I embraced music with all I had. I dedicated my education to becoming a music therapist and have continued that work ever since. Music took me back to the hospital, but in a different capacity where I got to see the good and understand the research behind it. I witnessed how music brings hope after getting the news of cancer diagnoses, energy in learning how to move after major surgeries, and peace in the last days of life.
As I was reflecting on these monumental moments, I realized that I loved storytelling and the challenge of making auditory concepts visual. I started posting on Instagram about why we love music, how our bodies respond to music, and how music therapists do their jobs. I then found myself invited to even more story-telling opportunities, which continued to expand my exploration into more topics impacted by music, including healthcare, education, human development, and social connection.
Today, I continue to design content that empowers those who love music to be curious about its impact. Whether it’s through creating illustrations, selling merchandise, speaking in front of audiences, or providing exceptional professional development opportunities, I want to empower people like you to share why music moves you too.
